She was the 4th and last wife of Fitzhugh. He had gone to Washington Territory earlier, where he had married one indian woman, later took her aunt as his second wife. About the start of the Civil War he left both wives and children and went back to Virginia. He then married Cora Bowie, returned to the Pacific Northwest where she died.
He spent the war as an aide to General George E. Pickett, and married Anne prior to the conclusion of the war.
Upon returning to Virginia where he participated in the war he married Ann Grayson, who supposedly was a cousin.
Ann Grayson Fitzhugh had four children:
Cora Bowie Fitzhugh (she was named in memory of Fitzhugh's wife who died in Washington)
Mary Grayson Fitzhugh
Alexander Fitzhugh
Margarette Fitzhugh
It is thought, not 100% verified that again Edmund Clare Fitzhugh deserted his family and it is known that he returned to the west, some of it once again in the Pacific Northwest. He eventually died in 1883 in San Fransisco
