Mary Ann Goff, a former senior class president at Apopka High School and a life-long resident of Apopka, died Wednesday afternoon from complications of leukemia.

The 21-year-old died just before 5 p.m. in Gainesville at Shands Hospital.

The funeral will be Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church on U.S. 441 in Apopka with Dr. Virgil Lovett, pastor, officiating. Mary Ann will be buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando.

Mary Ann was born in Orlando January 29, 1968 and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She is survived by her father and mother, Jimmy and Shirley; sister, Laura Beusse, all of Apopka; maternal grandmother, Lorene Dickens of Plymouth; maternal grandfather, James W. Dickens of Orlando; paternal grandmother, Lois Goff Stewart of Orlando.

Mary Ann's cousin, Margaret Dickens, of Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home of Apopka is handling the arrangements and is the director for the funeral.

Mary Ann was well-known throughout Apopka and had been very active at Apopka High School where she was very popular. She graduated from AHS in 1986.

She served her fellow students as senior class president and also was captain of the AHS dance corps, a member of the homecoming court and the yearbook staff.

Mary Ann continued that active campus life at the University of Florida where she was an enthusiastic Gator fan.

Last fall, she became ill and was diagnosed as having leukemia. However, the disease went into remission until about two months ago and she was re-admitted to Shands Hospital.

During her time at Shands, her mother, father and sister stayed by her side.
