Stones are down flat and concrete has been poured around them to keep them intact. This land is the land that was granted to the Councils when they first settled in America.
The exact location of this cemetery is taken from a book by Judson Council in 1941 entitled "Hodges Councill of Virginia and Descendants." There is no marker that identifies Hodges. (There are many graves here with no markers.)
There is Judith Yeates (1802-1859), wife of Joseph G. Councill. There is Christian Councill (died in 1855 at age 42), daughter of Godwin & Pheraby Councill. There is Media Ann (died 1849 at age 23), wife of Jesse D. Councill. There is Jesse Councill (1820-1901). There are other Councills.
The marker for "Joseph G. Councill" may identify Godwin Councill.
There is another key Council cemetery in Bladen County, North Carolina, located 1/4-mile west of the town of Council along Highway 211. It is on the south side of the road and located in the woods.
