Alex served in the US army, not Confederate as stated on his marker.Alex was mustered in at Fort Barrancas Pensacola Florida Oct 1st 1864 at the age of 18 into the 1st Regimental Florida Cavalry, and mustered out August of 1865.
He has 2 brothers buried here also,Daniel and Finley, both served in the Confederate army, and 1 nephew buried here,Robert H Morrison.
The confusion with Alex's marker probably originated with Veteran Affairs.(people in charge of headstones for the army)
Alex was mistaken for another Alexander Morrison who met his demise in Tullahoma Tennessee in 1865,that man was born in 1813 and served with the Company E 4th Florida.
Alexander was stationed at Fort Barrancas,Escambia county Florida. He took his gun and went home in August 1865,4 months after the Civil War ended, and was cited for desertion and loss of ordinance.
2 years later married Sarah Andrews in 1867.
Alex died in 1906 and now rests here in Otter Creek cemetery.
He was 59.
