Frank James Murphy served as a Private 1st Class in Company D, 83rd Chemical Battalion, United States Army during World War II.

He was a son of William B. and Ethel Murphy.

He was killed in action at Gela, Sicily on July 12, 1943.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 21, 1942 at New Castle, Pennsylvania.

He was originally from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.

He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on July 26, 1948.
