Oscar C. Bear, Long-Time Main Street Merchant, Dies
Oscar C. Bear, 90, 427 Mulberry St., died at 6 am toady at Kings Daughters Hospital. A native of Brooksburg,he started what is now Oscar C. Bear and Son Jewelry Store in 1907. He also operated an optometry office in the store. He was active in the business until July when ill health restricted his activity. He was a member of the Madison United Presbyterian Church, Dupont Masonic Lodge and the Madison Moose and Elk Lodges. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary A. Cox Bear; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Hale, Plainfield, and Mrs. Louise McGovern, Ocala, Fl.; two sons, Dr. William Bear and Oscar C. Bear Jr., of Madison; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Black, Madison, and Mrs. Gladys Soorbeer, Bakersfield, Ca., 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 pm Friday at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home with Burial in the Springdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 pm tomorrow. The Madison Masonic Union Lodge 2 will hold memorial services at 7:30 pm. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Kings Daughters Hospital Scholarship Fund and the Jeffery S. Bear Memorial Scholarship Fund at Madison Consoildated High School. Memorial cards will be available at the funeral home.
