Marie Blanchard
Formerly of Elgin
1918-2011
Marie Blanchard, 92, formerly of Elgin, died peacefully July 16 in Portland. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln Memorial Park, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. in Portland.
She was born Nov. 19, 1918, to Ira and Henrietta Smith in Elgin. She graduated from high school there.
She married Robert Blanchard in 1936, and during WWII, they moved to Portland, where she lived until her death.
She loved to play golf and belonged to bridge clubs all her life. She was also an active member of P.E.O. She was a member of Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a long-time volunteer at its library.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Donald Blanchard, and daughter-in-law, Gladys; a brother, George Smith and his wife, Sharon; sister-in-law, Ruth Blanchard; brother-in-law, Walter Berger; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; sisters, Beulah and Florence; and brothers, Tom and Harry.
