Clayton John Stockman died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Mountain View Care Center in Tucson, Arizona. John was born on October 7, 1920 in Holmes County, Ohio to Walter and Pearl (Kendrick) Stockman. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945 and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He married Millie Hunt on June 29, 1949 and they raised five daughters. In 1964 the family moved to California where they remained until 1983 when John retired from Kaiser Aerospace. They then moved to Vail, Arizona, and even though they enjoyed the miles they traveled together around the country in their motor home, it was home on the Sonoran Desert that they loved the best. John's favorite pastime was rock hounding and making beautiful jewelry from his finds. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008, a daughter, Sandra Hobbs, in 2007, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by four daughters; Marcella Coleman (Leonard) of Grants Pass, Oregon; Linda Shimokusu (Joe) of Chandler, Arizona; Jean Stockman of Tucson, Arizona; and Rebecca Stockman of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Alcy Bonham of Millersburg, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the wolf sanctuary he so loved, Howling Acres in Grants Pass, Oregon.
