Dexter Daily Statesman

Mary Fay Capps, daughter of the late James and Margaret Jane Reynolds Hardy, was born on Sept. 1, 1922, near Bloomfield and died on March 31, 2010, at the Golden Living Facility in Dexter at the age of 87.

Mrs. Capps worked as a telephone operator in St. Louis in the early 1940s and later was a home-maker in the Stoddard County area. Mrs. Capps was a former resident of Bloomfield currently living in Dexter.

On Sept. 11, 1942, she was united in marriage to Finis Elvin Capps in Bloomfield. Mr. Capps preceded her in death on July 20, 2006.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Capps of Centralia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lavern and Dr. Neal Garner of Dexter and Marcia and Cliff Aberle of Brookline; six grandchildren, Justin Capps of Denmark, Iowa, John Capps of West Burlington, Iowa, Crystal Isaac of Wappapello, Lana Aberle of Brookline, Marisa Garner of Dixon, Ill., and Brant Garner of Dexter; and by six great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Wayne Elvin Capps; and by one sister, Fern Hardy.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 9:30 until 11 a.m.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. Don Cooper officiating.
