Jewel C. Bartlett, 90, of Mauriceville, Texas, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mauriceville, with the Reverend Kevin Brown, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at King Cemetery in Hartburg, Texas.

Born in Mt. Enterprise, Texas, on March 28, 1920, Mrs. Bartlett was the daughter of Oscar Allen Chapman and Bessie Sarah (Phillips) Chapman.

She worked as a teacher's aid at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School and for many years, worked at the Pct. 16 election poll. Mrs. Bartlett was a member of First Baptist Church in Mauriceville where she served as a long time Sunday School teacher, was a member of the Jolly 60's Senior group and had served on numerous committees of the church. She served as 4H Club leader for Orange County, Texas, in 1968 and was the Young Homemakers Outstanding Good Samaritan in 1976. In 1985, Mrs. Bartlett received the Mauriceville Senior Citizen Good Samaritan Award, was the Mauriceville Crawfish Festival Parade Marshall in 1992 and had been honored as a Channel 6 Hometown Hero.

Mrs. Bartlett was preceded in death by her husband, James Lawrence Bartlett; sisters, Hazel Ball and Mildred Eiland and brother, Woodrow Chapman.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Bartlett and Michael Bartlett.

Serving as pallbearers will be Allen Ball, Mark Eiland, Scott McCauley, A.J. Brown, Ted Williams and Tommy Burton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephen Ball, Joe Shannon, Jerry White, Tommy Perry, Bob Lawler, Pete Langford and Micky Hughes.
