Private family graveside services at the Vandalia Cemetery were planned for Catherine Inez Cloer, 98, of Porterville, who died Monday. Mrs. Cloer was the mother of Evelyn Starr of Lemoore and also is survived by two sons, C. William Cloer of Porterville and Thomas Leroy Cloer, Jr. of Monrovia; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A second generation native Californian, Mrs. Cloer was born in Traver and attended schools in Tulare and Porterville, graduating from Rockford Grammar School and Porterville High School. She was married in 1913 to Thomas Leroy Cloer. They lived on a farm southwest of Porterville, farming wheat. She helped her husband make a living for their family by raising chickens, turkeys and vegetables. She also raised beautiful roses.
Active in community affairs, Mrs. Cloer was a member of the Poplar First United Methodist Church, a past president and member of the Terra Bella School Parent-Teacher Association, a member and past president of the Terra Bella Women's Club, a member of the Porterville High School PTA, Porterville Women's Club and Porterville Garden Club. She also was a member of the Porterville Duplicate Bridge Club and a National Bridge Master, and a 70-year member of the Palm Leaf chapter No. 114, Order of Eastern Star, in Porterville.
