Papers, 1838-1861.Library of Va..Accession 39697. 3 leaves and 32 pages..Papers, 1838-1861, of John Augustine Washington, including an obituary, photograph, eulogy, and correspondence. Includes three letters to Washington while he was enrolled at the University of Virginia, and five letters while he was aide-de-camp to General Robert E. Lee. Subjects include family, health, and finances. Of note is a letter, 19 July 1861, from Washington to Edward Turner, which includes some description of the first battle of Bull Run and troop movements. Also of note are two letters from his daughter, Eliza L., describing the effects of the War on the family and relating news of injured family members.
