Walter Bryan McKinney, Jr., senior assistant purser in the U.S. Merchant Marine, is reported missing in action, according to a casualty list released by the Eighth Naval District headquarters in Dallas. The area where he was serving is not given.

His parents, living here at 79 S. 16th St., have already been notified.

Walter Bryan McKinney, Jr., age 21, from Paris, Texas, was serving as a purser on board the steam driven cargo ship named Lewis L. Dyche. On January 4, 1945, while south of Mindoro (off the coast of Luzon, the Philippine Islands), a Japanese Kamikaze crashed on the deck of the freighter which was carrying bombs and fuses destined for the war effort. The ship exploded and disintegrated, killing all hands on board, including the 28-man Armed Guard. In all, 71 souls were lost on this ship in the explosion.
