Ms. Martha Powell Ponder, age 70, of Covington, Georgia passed away June 23, 2009 at the Rockdale Medical Center.
She was born August 30, 1938 to the late Mrs. Frances A. Yates Holloman in Douglas County, Georgia. Her stepfather, Robert Byron Holloman, married her mother late in life. Ms. Ponder was retired from the Bellsouth Yellow Pages and was a member of the Gaither's United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Michael Craig Ponder. She is survived by her fiancé Herman Carroll to whom she was to be married this month; sons and daughters-in-law Brett Kevin and Patricia A. Ponder of Conyers, Georgia, Derek William and Wendy R. Ponder of Toledo, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Mary Powell and Johnny Powell of Texas; granddaughter Brettany Lynn Ponder; grandsons Aaron Marshall Ponder and Jason Ponder; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at the Gaither's United Methodist Church with Pastor Mickey Moss officiating. Derrick Ponder will render the eulogy. Ms. Ponder will lie in state from 10:30 until the funeral hour. Entombment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens Chapel Mausoleum in Villa Rica. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 5-9PM at the Villa Rica Chapel of the Jones-Wynn Funeral Home. Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Villa Rica is serving the Ponder Family.
