Esther Caley was born on the Isle of Man in the parish of Lezayre about January 1837 the daughter of Thomas Caley and Anne Radcliffe. She immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in about 1859. She married Robert Allen in Cleveland in October 1861 where he was a shoemaker. At the time she was a domestic servant for Stephen Sturgis, a banker.
Robert and Esther Caley Allen had four daughters: Anna J., Carrie M., Frances M. and Lillian E. The family moved to the community of Pardee, in Center Township, Atchison County, Kansas, in about 1869.
After her early death death in 1871 she was buried in the Pardee Cemetery. Her husband Robert was buried next to her in 1874.
