June Kathleen Shortridge Clevinger, 90, of Maxie died at her home Thursday, Jan. 7 2010 following an extended illness.
Born in Grundy,Va., she was the daughter of the late Bill and Lucy Deskins Shortridge and step-father Dillard Diggers. She graduataed from Mountain Mission School after a fire destroyed Grundy High School in the late 1930's, she attended Pikeville College and worked many years for the Buchanan County School System as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide. She traveled to many destinations including the western United States and Canada, was active in numerous political functions and was a country music enthusiast.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Clevinger Dec. 30, 2005; an infant son, Donald Gene; a foster daughter, Edna Breeding; four brothers, Harold, Joe, John W, and Bob Shortridge; and three sisters, Helen Davis, Gertrude Barrow and Nell Leach.
She is survived by three daughters, Pat Ratliff and husband, David of Maxie, Sue Delaney and husband Everett of Grundy, and Vicki Corby of Sunrise, Fl., one son David "Sonny" Clevinger and wife Rita, of Maxie; one sister Joy Bernardo of Fort Pierce, Fl; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two special caregivers, Geraldine Salmons and Kim Hackney.
Funeral Services were held Friday, Jan. 8th at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Ancil Childress, Dennis Wimmer and Raffael Farrow officiating.
Graveside committals services were held at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA., on Sat. Jan. 9th.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy, Va was in charge of arrangements.
