Son of Charles Altemus and Sarah Ann Remel.

Charles Alvin Altemus was christened 19 May 1868 at Christ Church Hamilton Square, Monroe Co., PA. The sponsors were Jeremiah Teel and his wife, Mary Catherine.

Charles was first married to Minnie C. Hawk (daughter of Henry W Hawk and Emeline Ann Gower) 26 Feb 1891 at Salem Church at Gilbert by Rev. S. B. Stupp (Monroe County marriage license #556). At the time of their marriage in 1891, they were both living in Ross Twp. where Charles was a farmer.

1. Steward Henry Altemose b. 1892
2. Helen Catharine Altemose b. 1893

After Minnie's death, Charles was married to Hannah Elizabeth Marsh (nee Haney) (daughter of John F Haney and his wife, Elizabeth) 22 Feb 1896 at Zion Lutheran Church at Brodheadsville by Rev. S. F. Laury (Monroe County marriage license #1126). In 1896 they were both living at Saylorsburg. Charles was still farming and Hannah was a dressmaker. Sometime after their marriage they moved to Nazareth, PA and lived at 55 South Main Street.

1. Mary Alice Altemose b. 1901
2. Raymond E Altemose b. 1903
3. Elmer Franklin "Sox" Altemose b. 1906

Charles was a farmer most of his life and also worked for the R. S. Ziegler
Company for 23 years. He was a member of the Moravian Church at Nazareth, and a life member of Nazareth Fire Company.

He died at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem and was buried in the Moravian Cemetery in Nazareth. Rev. Robert I. Giering, Pastor of the Moravian Church, officiated. (Obit in "Allentown Morning Call", Thursday, 27 January 1949, p. 15)
