Mrs. Armel was born July 2, 1930, in Luray, Va., and was the daughter of the late Elmer Dewey and Mildred Selena Lichliter Hinton.
On Oct. 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Beverly Roy Armel of Luray, the love or her life, who passed away Feb. 11, 2012. Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Ann Gander and husband, Jim, of Luray, Va., and Stephanie Kay Wentz and husband, Mark, of Shenandoah, Va. Also, two grandsons, Joshua and Christopher Gander; two granddaughters, Brooklyn and Beverly Wentz; and two sisters, Wanda Tate and husband, Reed, of Luray, Va., and Fonda Erdman and husband, Walter, of Bridgewater, Va.
She graduated from Luray High School in 1947. Her primary career was a mother and homemaker. Prior to becoming a mother, she worked at J.C. Penney in Cheyenne, Wyo., and when returning to Luray, she worked as a telephone operator. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, playing cards and dominos.
She was a member of the Luray Methodist Church and was a member of the Luray's VFW women's auxiliary for over 50 years.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, at Beahm's Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. William Ricketts and the Rev. Eric Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lafayette Lodge No. 137, Luray, Va., in memory of her deceased loving husband.
