Otto Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Baker, northwest of Spirit Lake, passed away in Minneapolis in the U. S. Veterans hospital in Minneapolis on Saturday, April 2, 1927. He contracted afflictions while in the service for which he has been taking treatment at the hospital for several years. For the past few months he has been confined to the hospital. The body was brought to Spirit Lake on Monday. The funeral services were held from the Baptist church on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. C. M. Crowell delivered the sermon. The American Legion was in charge of the services.
Otto Franklin Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Baker was born in East Lynn, ILL., April 8, 1893 and passed away in Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, April 2, 1927 at the age of 38 years, 11 months and 24 days.
He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1902 where he spent most of his life. On October 30, 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Flinn and to this union was born four children, Earl Franklin, Marvel Margaret, Elaine Francis and Mary Alice.
Otto Baker went into service on July 22, 1918 enlisting with Co. I 110 infantry. He sailed for France on August 12, 1918 landing in France Sept. 4. He returned to Philadelphia on May 14, 1919 having spent 9 months over seas. On the 24th of May he was discharged from the army.
Those left to mourn his untimely death are his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Baker of Spirit Lake, his loving wife, Myrtle Baker. four children, a brother, Avalt Baker of Spirit Lake, a sister, Mrs. Oscar Rhoades of Lady Smith, Wisc., one brother precedes him in death 14 years ago. He leaves an aged grandfather who is now living in Indiana. He leaves many relatives and loving friends aside from those mentioned in this obituary.
Mr. Baker was for a time engaged in the restaurant business in Spirit Lake.
Mr. Baker was Baptised in the Lutheran faith when three months old, and was a member of the church at the time of his death.
