Dr. Francis X. Lieb, a retired pediatrician in St. Louis, died of cancer Friday (Feb. 19, 1999) at his home in Creve Coeur. He was 74.
Dr. Lieb was a graduate of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Class of 1948. He was in private practice here from 1953 until he retired in 1987. He was a former chairman of pediatrics at St. John's Mercy Medical Center and on the staffs of Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Mary's Health Center and Deaconess Hospital. He was also on the faculty of St. Louis University School of Medicine.
From 1985 to 1992, he was medical director of the Midwest division of CIGNA Healthplan Inc., and from 1990 to 1992 held a similar post of its Mideast region. He was also a consultant with CIGNA until last year.
He was a past president of the St. Louis Medical Society, the St. Louis Pediatric Society and the Missouri chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was also a former chairman of the Visiting Nurse Association and a board member of the Cardinal Carberry Senior Living Center.
Dr. Lieb was born and grew up in St. Louis. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from St. Louis University and served in the Army Medical Corps in Japan from 1951 to 1953.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 530 South Mason Road, Creve Coeur. The body was donated to the St. Louis University School of Medicine.
