John Flier Dies at 87
John Flier, 87, retired Ringsted and Armstrong area farmer, died Monday afternoon at Anoka State Hospital at Anoka, Minn. Death was attributed to complications of advanced age. He had been in failing health for the past six years.

He was born Sept. 15, 1878, at Cassville, Wis., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Flier.

He received his education in Woodbury County, where he moved with his parents when he was about five years old. In 1900, the family moved to the Ringsted area.

Mr. Flier was married to Eda Loewenberg Feb. 4, 1903, at Ringsted. He farmed until his retirement in 1939, when he moved to Armstrong.

He was a member of the Armstrong Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Flier is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Pearl) Burt of Fenton, Mrs. Leo (Florence) Guerdet of Armstrong and Mrs. Elwin (Irene) Fisher of Goodland, Minn.; two sons, Ralph of Turtle Lake, Wis., and Earl of Estherville; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph Flier of Armstrong and Jacob Flier of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Family services will be held at 1:30 pm. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church in Armstrong, followed by public services at 2 p.m., Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating.

Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Mr. Flier’s grandsons will be pallbearers.

Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 22, 1966)
