Alfred Greene Harp, was born near Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia on October 4, 1838 to William and Senna Ann (Blake) Harp. He married Mary Melissa Taylor on December 27, 1859 in Upson County, Georgia. He was the father of William Dayton, General Taylor, Mary E., George William, Lottie, Sarah Florence, Senna Frances Harp and Jane Elizabeth Harp.

He joined the Confederate States Army on March 4, 1862 and served in Company H of the Georgia 44th Infantry Regiment. He served as a physician as was promoted to Full Hospital Steward at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was discharged from service on October 14, 1863, for bouts of epilepsy.

He passed away on July 3, 1913 at the age of 74 and is buried at Mountville Cemetery in Troup County, Georgia.
