George Brewer [no middle name!] was possibly born CIRCA 1670 (place of birth not known).6
He married first Sarah Lanier, daughter of John Lanier, (no record of marriage, and the year of their marriage is not known).7
On 13 July 1714 at Prince George County, Virginia, George Brewer witnessed a deed from John Gulson to Robert Hall.8
Brunswick County, Virginia was formed in 1720 from Prince George County. Some additional lands in the eastern section of Brunswick Co. were added from Surry and Isle of Wight Cos. in 1732. In 1745 a large portion of Brunswick Co. was set off as Lunenburg Co., reducing the size of Brunswick Co. substantially. In 1780 lands were taken from the eastern side to form Greensville Co.9
On 9 July 1724 at Prince George Co., Virginia, George Brewer received a patent for 100 acres on the lower side of Reedy Branch.10
George Brewer married second Alice (?) (date unknown).11
On 6 December 1736 William Acock is appointed Surveyor of the Highway from William Wall's Road about half a mile from the River to the Beaver Pond Creek and that George Brewer Senior, Howell Brewer, William Brewer, William Wise Senior, William Wise Jr., Thomas Powell, Thomas Powell, Jr., Douglas Powell, William Powell, John Powell, John Rook, Joseph Heathrock, John Brewer, John Jeffers, Ninian Mitchel, Lanier Brewer, Charles Brady, John Wise, James Turner, John Cooper, and Nathaniel Carter assit in clearing the same.12
On 23 November 1739 at North Carolina, George Brewer received a patent for 300 acres in Bertie County, joining the Beaver Pond Creek and the Branch.13
On 7 May 1741 at Brunswick Co., Virginia, James Banks son and devisee of James Banks, dec'd, plaintiff against George Brewer, defendant in a matter of debt. Judgement entered for the plaintiff against the deft. "and Robert Smell and George Brewer his Security for the Debt."
4 Feb 1741/42: Continued until the next Court.14,15
His will was dated on 13 July 1741 proved 2 Aug 1744, Brunswick Co., Virginia. George Brewer of Brunswick Co., Virginia, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory. Names his wife, Alice; sons William, Oliver, Henry, Nathaniel; daughter Sarah Vick; sons Lanier, George, Nicholas, John, Howl, Henry, Oliver, Nathaniel. Executors: his wife Alice and son Howell. Signs with his mark "G".16
George Brewer died between 5 March 1742 and 2 August 1744; (court order and proving of will), presumably in Brunswick Co., Virginia.
On 5 March 1741/42 James Banks v. George Brewer in case of debt. This day came the petitioner by his attorney Clement Read, but the deft. tho solemnly called came not. Judgement obtained by the plaintiff against the deft. and his sec. in May last be confirmed and that the Pet. recover against said deft. his debt - £5, 5s current money and 680 lbs of tobacco and his costs.17
On 3 April 1746. The order for Appraising the Estate of George Brewer, deceased, not being complied with and the Executors having failed to return an Inventory thereof, ordered that the said Executors be summoned to show cause for their neglect and why the former Order is not performed.18
Inventory of estate taken on 27 June 1746? At Brunswick Co., Virginia, £7, 2s., 6d. Filed by Alice (?) Brewer and Howell Brewer, executors. [Recorded 4 Sep 1746].19,20
Henrich Brewer is claimed as a son of George Brewer by Edward Denton in House of Brewer. This assertion is incorrect. Henry is not a son of George Brewer, nor is he descended from the Brewers found in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia.21
George Brewer named ten children in his will, but which of his two wives were mother to each is not certain. The birth order of his children is also not known and there is no evidence in his will that they were mentioned in order by their ages. It is likely that the older sons George (b. by 1707), John, Howell and William (likely at least age 16 by 1736), sons Lanier and Nicholas (names associated with the Lanier Family) and daughter Sarah (married by 1741) were children of George Brewer's first wife, Sarah Lanier. The will also mentions "all my younger children that it hath praised God to give me by her (his wife Alice) during her life..." I suspect, although it is not certain, that the "younger children" (children of second wife Alice) are the sons Oliver, Henry and Nathaniel, each of whom received land (the older sons did not receive land and were certainly already established with property). Henry, Nathaniel and Oliver each also received a gun (the older, independent sons would have already owned their own gun).22
