Will of Reverend James Blanchard
In the name of God, Amen
I James Blanchard of said state and county being sick and with fever and knowing that it is appointed for man to die and feeling that my dissolution is near and being of sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the following manner, to wit:
First I commend my soul my immortal part to God the author of all Good and recommend my body to be interred according to the custom of the family burials.
Item First - It is my will and desire that my just debts be paid by my Executor hereinafter named as early as possible.
Item Second - I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Blanchard and to my son James Blanchard, Jr. the following property to wit, the tract of land consisting of the Wilking, Keiths, Jones Vacant Survey. Walton tract making in all Eight hundred and forty acres with the exception of two small lots given my son Billington as hereinafter named all which property I give her during her natural life to be enjoyed by her and my son James. I also give my beloved wife the following property during her life, to wit, my boy Isaac, woman Polly. old woman Winney and my two Grey mares, five cows and calves of her choice, Ten head of hogs and two sows and pigs of her choice, five head of sheep of her choice, all the poultry of different kinds, five hundred bushels of corn, five stacks of fodder, of her choice, about forty bushels of wheat, half of my shucks, half of the potatoes, twenty bushels of oats, all the cotton seed, all the household and kitchen furniture with the exception of the Bureau and large Mahogany Table also my cotton gin, Blacksmith tools and plantation tools, Road Waggon and Gear and fifty dollars in cash.
Item Third - I give and bequeath to my son James Blanchard the following property to wit, I confirm the gift of the boy Morris unto him and I do also give unto my son James my boy Randal and woman Sophia and two hundred acres of land to be taken off the West end of the land including my dwelling and one hundred bushels of corn, one stack of fodder and all the oats not here before given and one Bedstead and furniture.
Item Fourth - I give and bequeath to my son Billington Blanchard the following property to sit, my man George, woman Lotty and girl Rachel and two hundred dollars in money also the following land about twenty five acres off the Ayres tract now cultivated by him and also nine acres of Waton Tract on one other part now possessed by him. I also give him my commentaries on the Bible and Testament by Gill.-
Item Fifth - I give and bequeath to Joseph Collier who intermarried with my daughter Rebecca the following property to wit, my boy Isaac (son of Joseph) and three hundred dollars in money.
Item Sixth - I give and bequeath to my son Jefferson the following property my Blacksmith man Joe and Hannah his wife and also this tract of land he living upon.
Item Seventh - I give and bequeath to my daughter Polly Martin the following property to wit, my negro boy Joe and boy Tom and if my daughter Polly should die then said property to be given to the heirs of her body.
Item Eighth - I give and bequeath to my grandchildren Sally Blanchard and Reuben Blanchard and Jane Cartledge, Mary Cartledge, James Cartledge and Rebecca Cartledge each the sum of four hundred dollars to be paid them on their arriving at lawful age or marriage.
Item Ninth - It is my will and desire that the residue of my estate both real and personal be sold by my Executors and after paying all my just debts and the legacies in money, be equally divided between my children and my Grandchildren then by my son Reuben and daughter Sarah and it is my Will at the death of my wife that the property bequeathed unto her should be equally divided between my children and my grand children as before named.
And Lastly I appoint my brother, Uriah Blanchard and my son Billington Blanchard my Executors to execute this my Last Will and Testament revoking all other Wills by me made written or (looks like) reoncupative ( probably communicated verbally).
In Witness where of I do hereby pronounce this my Will Given under my and and seal this 15th October 1836.
