Mary Dorothy Fay (Franklin) Ayres of Gatesville died Nov. 19 in a local hospital. She was 78.
Funeral services were held Monday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Douglas Pete Shults and the Rev. Willie Clarke officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Ayres was born April 10,1921, in Union Valley, Coryell County, to the late Ulla and Mary Ettie Bates Franklin.
She attended schools in Ewing, Owl Creek and Maple, all of which were located in what is now Fort Hood. She graduated from Gatesville High School, and married Robert Joseph Ayres on Sept. 20,1940.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville, and a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Betty Martin Chapter, and the Central Texas Doll Club. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Freda, in 1923; her father in 1930; and her mother in 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Ayres of Gatesville; a son, Robert Dale Ayres of Bonham; four daughters, Mary Recterof Odessa, Doris Turner of Bryan, and Pat Kasting and Bobbie Tippit, both of Gatesville; three sisters, Winnie Frattone of Skokie, Ill., Betty Ruth Taylor of Temple and Yula Lee "Frankie" Anderson of Midland; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
