Mr. Ray J. Powers, age 83, of Carrollton, Ga., passed Friday, March 11, 2011. He was born June 12, 1927 in Carroll County, Ga., to the late Joseph L. Powers and Beulah Hall Powers.

Mr. Powers served his country from 1945 until 1947 in the US Army toward the end of WWII. He was a member of the Tyus Baptist Church and retired after 23 years of service at West Georgia College.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Alford Powers; brothers, Carl Powers, Bobby Powers and Frank Powers and sisters, Christine Williams and Elsie Cook.

Survivors include his sons and daughter in law, Donald & Linda Powers of Carrollton, and Randall Powers of Decatur; sister, Edna Allen of Temple; sister in law, Betty Jane & Roger Landers of Bowdon, Shirley Powers and Barbara Powers both of Carrollton; grandchildren, Michelle Green and Nick Powers both of Carrollton; also 4 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2 PM from Tyus Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Richards, Rev. Quinnion Duncan and Rev. G.W. Burson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the American Legion Post #143 making the flag presentation.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4 PM until 7 PM.
