Hyatt Bunn was born on May 8, 1805 in Jeromesville, Wayne (now Ashland) Co., OH to Benjamin and Margaret Elizabeth (Hyatt) Bunn. He was a big man, like his father, who was 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 225 pounds. He married Elizabeth "Betsey" Hazard on June 22, 1826 in Wayne Co., OH. They had eleven children, 5 of whom were born in Ohio. The family remained in the wilds of Ohio until 1838 when they, along with a number of other families moved to Richland County, Illinois. The remaining 6 children were born in Lawrence and Richland Counties in Illinois. The children were: John B., William Wallace, Elizabeth Jane, Margaret Ann, Benjamin Wood, William Benton, Roxanna, Dencey Almyra, Rebecca Ann, Hyatt Miles, and Pamilla Jane. Hyatt passed away on December 5, 1871 in Claremont, Richland Co., IL.
