Mr. Clutch, ole Reliable, it was not just the many hits you got, but you got so many of them just when they were absolutely most needed. The stats don't highlight this but as a Red Sox fan, I know.

On this date 65 years ago -- Oct. 5, 1949 -- "Old Reliable" Tommy Henrich homered off Don Newcombe in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the New York Yankees and Allie Reynolds a 1-0 win over the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series. A crowd of 66,224 attended at Yankee Stadium.
