Jacqueline Blount Barron of Thomaston, GA passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Thomaston, GA. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 - 11 a.m. in the Social Hall at the church immediately preceding the service. Mrs. Barron was born June 15, 1921 in Upson County to the late Velma Blount and Samuel Artis Blount. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Marchman McKenney and William Hartley Barron; and her sister, Dove Blount Kersey. Mrs. Barron retired from Citizens and Southern Bank in Thomaston, GA where she worked for 40 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at her church and the hospital. She was a faithful and lifelong member of the Thomaston First United Methodist Church, a loving mother, and friend to many. Her love for her family, church and the Thomaston community was very apparent in all she did. She is survived by daughters, Joyce McKenney Duncan and her husband, Mike, of Columbus, GA and March McKenney Burnette and her husband, Sam, of Columbus, GA; son, Mitch Barron and his wife, Belinda, of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren, Mallory Congleton and her husband, Bryan, of Birmingham, AL, Courtney Burnette, Andrew Burnette, Hartley Barron and Erica Barron, all of Columbus, GA; two great granddaughters, Christian McKenney Congleton and Emory Marchman Congleton of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Billy Blount of Thomaston, GA and Sam Blount of Gainesville, GA; two sisters, Doris Huckabee of Thomaston, GA and Betty Stephens of Atlanta, GA; and many dear nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to First United Methodist Church of Thomaston, 132 Cherokee Road, Thomaston, GA 30286 or to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909 Coggins Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of arrangements.
