Mayflower descendant of both his paternal grandparents with at least two ancestors Revolutiionary war veterans Heinrich Staring (1730-1808) and Rev Robert Gray (1761-1822. His paternal grandfather a Confederate officer and his 100% German blood mother's father, with his two brothers, in Union army during Civil War at the 1864 Kansas "Mine Creek Battle and oldest brother in charge of military railroads in Europe & Africa during WW II.

Birth: 3rd of three known children in St Louis, Missouri, named in part for aunt Ethel's husband, his father's right hand man, LeRoy Kramer with parents living at 3939 west Belle place.
Listed on parents monument in Druid Ridge cemetery, Pikesville, Maryland, and found in "Who is Who in America" with his oldest brother and their father.
Following his attendance at Baltimore's "Howdie" with two year older brother, "Russ" both having entered Princeton, he in 1919, and was chosen Master of Ceremonies for graduation of Class of 1923, was an outstanding student, awarded many prestiges awards, among them being a hero football player on the famous "Team of Destiny", awarded John P. Poe – Richard W. Kazmaier Trophy the annual award to a member of the varsity football team of good moral character, who, during the season, in addition to proving himself a player of ability, has best exemplified the following traits and characteristics: loyalty and devotion to Princeton football interests, courage, manliness, self-control and modesty, perseverance and determination under discouraging conditions, observance of the rules of the game and fairness toward opponents. Formerly known as the John P. Poe Memorial Trophy, this award was change in 1991 to include the name of Richard W. Kazmaier to bridge the generation game and honor Princeton's most legendary players from each of the last two centuries.1922: Howard K. Gray '23, ~ ~ operated on Jimmie Roosevelt 1938.
Served navy attaining rank of Captain, awarded, among others, the Legion of Merit, (The Legion of Merit (Commander degree) is one of only two United States military decorations to be issued as a neck order (the other being the Medal of Honor) and the only United States decoration), comenced service during World War II 1st on 28 DEC 1941 aboard at Pearl Harbor for two years with action at Tarara, Kuajaiein, Einewetok, Roi-Islands, Saipan and Guam as chief surgeon of 17 surgeons in south-pacific, then chief of surgery at Alea Heights Naval hospital on the Oahu island of Hawaii where he enjoyed home cooked steak dinners at a 1st cousin's home, Harriette Flora (Hopkins) Anglea, a school teacher while her husband was an air traffic controller, ending as chief surgeon at the San Diego Naval hospital till wars end, was Chief of Surgical section of Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Minnesota, then as of 1948 became one of Mayo's eleven Trustees. This while his oldest brother, Carl, jr was a Major-General in charge of railroads in Europe, awarded The Distinguished Service Cross, then Head of Veterans Administration under Harry S Truman. "Howdie"'s tragic end came from drowning when trying to retrieve his vessel's dinghy in the Mississippi river.
