BRUNSWICK - Valeda J. Davis, 88, of Cumberland Street died, Sunday, July 16, 2001, at Freeport Nursing Home. She was born in Peace Dale, R.I. on July 16, 1913, the daughter of A. H. and Melina Boucher Landry. She was a 1931 graduate of Lewiston High School.
In April 1935 she maried Charles E. Davis. He died in 1978. She was a homemaker. After raising her family, she went to school, becoming a certified nurses' assistant. She worked as a certified nurses' assistant at Pineland and then at the Veterans Affairs Administration Hospital in Tugus until retiring in 1975.
She enjoyed golfing and watching Maine Black Bear Hockey.
She was a member of National Asociation of Retired Federal Employees, AARP and St. Charles Borromeo Church.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce G. Davis of Orlando, Fla., and Peter M. Davis of Brunswick; a daughter, Patricia A. Logan of Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, N.Y.; a brother, Ben Landry of Glastonbury, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by two sons, Charles E. Davis, Jr. and Norman L. Davis.
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Charles Borromeo Church, McKeon Stret, with the Rev. Stephen Concannon officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Brunwick. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
