"He was the meanest, roughest guy you could imagine. He just stood up there and whaled everything within reach. Doubles, triples, home runs; he sprayed 'em all over every park." Leo Durocher

Joe it comes time to start another baseball season, and I just came back from visiting the grave of our friend, Roger Maris, who played for both the Yankees and finished his career with the Cardinals. We finally met at a New York Mets Old Timer's Day game. Through my friendship with the late Tommy Gorman (a National League Umpire), he arranged for me to speak with Roger in the locker room. He was thrilled to meet me, and me even so when we sat and talked about his idol and batting coach Joe Medwick! Thank you from my heart, for having such great parents in Elizabeth and John and me having them live right above my family at the house you lived and grew up at 55 Union Street, Carteret, NJ.GOD REST MY DEAR FRIEND, YOU HAVE EARNED IT FINALLY....I MISS AND STILL LOVE AND RESOPECT YOU!

In Loving Memory of My Grandfather.....you were very doting and always in the front yard with us playing baseball of course! The wonderful memories of you taking us to Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg for Spring Training. You passed way before your time, but I am at peace knowing you have your whole family with you in Heaven. Grandmother (Nana)2005, Dad (Mickey)2010 and Susan 2013. You are always in our hearts and it makes me very proud to represent you in Cooperstown during the Induction Ceremonies or at the Cardinals Games. Joe (my brother, your only surviving namesake) and I have raised our girls to know who you were and how fond you were of your passion....Baseball. If only the young players today knew how hard it was to play the game back in your day. How you gave your first paycheck to your Mother! How protective you were of your family. Oh the stories! I found this website and it makes my heart warm to see all of the comments left for you. Love you and miss you everyday....Your Loving Granddaughter, Lisa Medwick-Levy

It was a great pleasure to know you, and an even greater honor to know your parents. I was glad to call you a friend, and to help support your election/induction into the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1968 finally.I wrote over 10,000 letters, to members of the Baseball Writers Association Of America. Because I for one believed in you, and that you deserved to be there along side your fellow professionals (like Dizzy Dean-Joe Cronin-Babe Ruth-Lou Gehrig-and so many others). We both grew up in a small town, you in Carteret (NJ) and me in Carbondale(PA). We both loved the game like crazy, and played it until we both could not find the light of day in order to play our hearts out!Thank you for being my friend, for I shall always remember the day that you called out my name. And in front of the whole student body, in Carteret High School's gym. And told everyone in attendence, that if it were not for me..that you would had never made it into reaching the Baseball Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown, New York...I was proud of you then and again that day in July 1968 on a hot summer day in July 1968 when you gave your acceptance speech outside of the Hall Of Fame!It was a day that I was so proud, to know Joseph Michael Medick /aka/ Ducky Wucky Medwick the pride of St. Louis and Carteret, New Jersey!May you rest in peace, the fight is finally over and we can both brng our pride home to glow!

It was not only an honor, but a great pleasure to call you my friend. I grew up in your home in Carteret, New Jersey, your parents were like my grandparents. I loved and respected you like a family member, you were my greatest hero next to Babe Ruth.I helped push you into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and brought your records to the attention of many baseball writers who were too young to realize just you did in your career! To me Joe "Ducky Wucky" Medwick, was baseball at it's finest and very best. Thank you Joe, for so many fond and great thrills and memories in growing up in your hometown.May you finally rest in peace, you made it to the greatest honor of all--THE HALL OF FAME IN 1968-And I WAS THERE TO SHARE IT WITH YOU!
