He retired after working for 35 years at United Steel & Wire Company in January 2000. During his retirement, he loved to fish, work in his garden, go to Butler Motor Speedway, attend car shows, cruise in his 1960 Chevy Bel Air, ride around the yard on his John Deere and spend time with his cockotiel, Skippy.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Donna Bigley; a daughter, Kathaleen Banks of Battle Creek; his son, Lewis (Kimna) Banks, II. of Owasso, Oklahoma; grandsons, Christopher Laird of White Pigeon, Jeremy (Jenny) Laird of Tulsa, Oklahoma and his granddaughters with "fur", Lizzy, Baby & Little One. He is also survived by sisters, Joyce Brooks of Bronson, Janet (Duane) Baker of Vicksburg, Shirley (Fred) Martin of Battle Creek, Vivian (Norman) Lewis of Sherwood and Nancy (Tom) Arnold of Burlington; brothers, Kenny Banks of Lake, Michigan, Gordon (Charlotte) Banks of Battle Creek and a special friend, Pam Elliott of Battle Creek. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine & Merl Banks.
At the request of the family, they will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate Lewis's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009 with Pastor Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the Prostate Cancer Foundation in Lewis's memory.
