DEATH CLAIMS AN AGED VARNA LADY

FUNERAL SERVICES WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON; INTERMENT AT VARNA.

Mrs. Emma Anderson passed away at her home in Varna on Monday, at eleven o'clock a.m. at the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 1 day. She has been an invalid for more than eleven years, having suffered a paralytic stroke in August of 1915, which rendered her right side entirely helpless.

Last June she suffered a second stroke which paralyzed, almost entirely, the rest of her body; since then she has been gradually failing, getting weaker and weaker, finally lapsing into unconsciousness, in which condition she remained for more than a week, death coming as a deferred answer to her many prayers and as a sweet relief to her tired, painwracked body.

Mrs. Anderson was born in Doderhult, Kalmar Lan, Sweden, January 3, 1847, at which place she was also married to Swan Anderson on December 3, 1865, who preceded her in death, February 3, 1916, he also having suffered a paralytic stroke.

Together they arrived in America, June 17, 1867, locating at Andover, where they engaged in the occupation of farming, residing there some years before coming to the vicinity of Varna.

In 1902 the family moved to Winthrop, IA, where they remained until 1910 when they sold out and moved back to Varna where the deceased has since resided.

Previous to her stroke, Mrs. Anderson had been unusually active and energetic which tended to make her severe tribulation all the more pathetic. During these many years, however, she bore her suffering patiently, uncomplaingly, continually yearning for the day of her deliverance from this temporal existence, and trustfully looking forward with the unwavering eyes of faith, to the eternal mansions beyond the grave where sorrow and death can not enter in.

During this long period of affliction she was tenderly cared to by different lady attendants and by her children. Albert, who lives at home and Charley, who works on a farm not far away, have perhaps shared the heaviest burden in the care of their mother. The daughters have also rendered loyal service.

Mrs. Anderson leaves to mourn her demise, seven sons and four daughters, which are as follows: Albert and Charlie at home; Frank, Andrew, Lawrence and Elmer of Cambridge, and Wilbert of Chicago; Mrs. Hilma Carlson, Mrs. Josie Fritz, Mrs. Emma Wahdquist and Mrs. Phoebe Anderson, all of Peoria, IL. Twenty-four grandchildren; one brother, N. J. Nelson, Essex, IA; and one sister, Mrs. C. J. Hultgren of Varna.

The deceased was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church from where her funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and Rev. K. A. Nilsson officiated, speaking in both English and Swedish. Interment was made in the Swedish cemetery at Varna (First Lutheran # 1).

The singers were Mrs. Nita Carlson and Mrs. Axel Nelson, who rendered two of her favorite songs.
The flowers were many and beautiful.

The casket bearers were her grandchildren, Leonard Fritz, Lionel Wahdquist, Walter Carlson, Edward Anderson, Roy Carlson and Neweln Anderson.

One relative, a niece, Miss Augusta Nelson of Chicago, was in attendance at the funeral
