Memorial services for Clarence Raymond Melton, 76, of Powersite, will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 13, 2009, at Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Branson with the Rev. Sue Clayton officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of the funeral home.

Clarence Raymond "Ray" Melton, 76, Powersite, Mo., passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009, in his home. He was born May 12, 1933 in Powersite to Clarence O. "Jack" and Madge (Rains) Melton. Ray grew up in the Powersite area, and served his country in the United States Army. When he returned from the service, he worked a number of years for the Forsyth Sanitation Department. He was hired by the Branson Police Department as an officer and then was promoted to Police Chief. Ray was a Major Crime Investigator for the Taney County Prosecutor's Office. Though in ill health in recent years, Ray was a lifelong outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was an avid reader and the proud owner of four adoring dogs, Jack, Max, Coco and Alfie. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Madge Melton; and his beloved Bichon Frise, Annie. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances (Dembrosky) of the home; four children; sons, Brad Melton of Powersite, Tony and wife Tonya Rains of Garrison; daughters, Tami Cummings and husband William of Kissee Mills, Serita Clark and husband Stan of Drury, Mo.; two brothers, Ronnie and wife Peggy Melton, Robert and wife Debbie Melton, all of Powersite, Mo.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson. Rev. Sue Clayton will officiate. Private burial will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Humane Society.
