Martha Bryan - L58S-S9V

Death: 12 May 1793

Blue Lick, Lincoln, Kentucky, United States

Various DAR applications for Joseph Bryan, Sr., showing the mother of daughter, Martha Bryan:

Joseph's second wife, Alee

Joseph's second wife, Alyee

Joseph's first wife, Alice

Joseph's first wife, _______

There are a lot of different opinions for Martha Bryan's mother.

**The Quaker document, U.S., Quaker Meeting Records, 1681-1935, shows Alee as her mother.

The following conflicts with who Martha's mother was.

"Among Joseph's children by his first wife, Hester Simpson Hampton, were Rebecca Bryan, the wife of Daniel Boone, and Martha Bryan, the wife of Daniel's brother Edward "Neddie" Boone."

**Found on Find a Grave Memorial 190264104

**Joseph's first wife was Alice "Alyee" Linville Bryan, not Easther/Hester Simpson Hampdon/Hampton Bryan.

**Martha Bryan was born in 1736 and Rebecca Ann Bryan was born in 1739, precluding them from being Hester's daughters.

From Annette Fullington on December 17, 2018:

"Hester Hampton born 1720 in Va. and died 19 Nov 1740 was the first wife of Joseph Bryan, Sr. and the Mother of Rebecca Bryan and Martha Bryan who married Daniel and Edward Boone. Not Alice Lynville."

**Easther Hester Simpson Hampdon/Hampton married Joseph Bryan, Sr. in 1772, so she did not die on November 19, 1740.

**Martha Bryan, born in 1736, and Rebecca Ann Bryan, born in 1739, were daughters of Alice "Alyee" Linville Bryan.

From janicet on May 1, 2020:

"It has been determined by the DAR genealogists that they cannot verify the mother of any children of Joseph Bryan's born before 1755 (see Joseph Bryan's updated records in the DAR)."

**Quaker Meeting Records-1681-1935 shows Martha Bryan's parents as Joseph and Alee (could be Alic -- maybe Alec).

From James Pattyn on July 22, 2020:

"She is the daughter of his 1st wife, not his second."

Quaker Meeting Records-1681-1935 record that shows Martha Bryan's parents as Joseph and Alee (could be Alic -- maybe Alec), assumed to be Alice "Aylee" Linville Bryan.

From Bob Cole on July 24, 2020:

"I don't believe that you have a conflict with the Quaker papers -- when they indicated that Aylee was the Mother, in their records. From what I see... Martha's Mom - Hester/Easther- died Nov 1740. It looks like Joseph remarried to Aylee, right away (1740 indicated, but I guess it could have been 1741). They might just naturally say "Mother", instead of "Stepmother" in the Quaker records."

**Quaker Meeting Records-1681-1935 shows Martha Bryan's parents as Joseph and Alee (could be Alic -- maybe Alec).

From Raymond A. Santopietro on April 1, 2022:

Suggests that Martha Bryan Boone's mother was Easther/Hester Simpson Bryan as opposed to Alice "Aylee" Linville Bryan.

**Easther/Hester Simpson and Joseph Bryan, Sr. married on or after November 30, 1772 as shown on their Rowan County, North Carolina Marriage License.

**Martha Bryan Boone was born in 1736, so Easther/Hester Simpson Bryan could not have been Martha's mother.

From Harry T. Bryan on August 24, 2023:

If Martha was born in 1736, then her mother would have been Joseph's first wife, Hester.

From Susan B on March 16, 2024:

Suggested Hester was Martha's mother, as opposed to Alice "Alyee" Linville Bryan.

From Sandra Koors on March 28, 2024:

Death month.

Death county.

**Previously had Fayette County.

**No source document provided.
