Vern was born July 27,1941, in Madill, Okla., to William Alfred Cryer and Nora Mae (Gray) Cryer.
In his early working life, Vern worked as a carpenter. For the 10 years prior to his retirement, he worked at the Peterson Hatchery. Vern was a great outdoorsman and he enjoyed camping with his family. Prior to the sanctions on game fighting, Vern enjoyed participating in and training roosters for cockfighting. He was an avid fisherman and loved fishing for cat the most. He was a loving father and was always there for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers; Elmore and O'Dell Cryer.
Vern is survived by son, Dewayne Cryer; daughters, Sharon Cryer and Teresa Smith; grandchildren, Christopher Cryer, Cassandra Cryer, Brandon Smith all of Ardmore and granddaughter Veronica Nelson of Meeker, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Justis, Dylan, Caleb, Savanna, Braxton, Bryson, and Colby; brother Lonnie Cryer and wife, Bonnie, all of Ardmore.
Family will greet visitors this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
