Deuford Alton "Will" Wilburn, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6 (2009) at Santa Rosa, Calif.

Born Dec. 9, 1919, to Marvin and Robie Wilburn in Boone County, he was the oldest of five children. He spent his childhood in the beautiful rolling hills of the Ozarks and northeast Oklahoma, and he was very proud to tell people of his travels as a child from Arkansas to Oklahoma and back in a horse-drawn wagon train.

Upon high school graduation in 1939, Deuford joined the CCC. In 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Mozena Dodd and joined the Army Air Corps. He spent World War II in Calcutta, India, supporting missions "Flying the Hump." After the war, he began his career with the federal government in Walla Walla, Wash. with the VA. Several moves and promotions were to follow.

He retired in 1976 from the Social Security Administration where he had assisted in the installation of the "new" Medicare program. While retired, he found more time to pursue his interest of buying, fixing up and renting houses.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mozena and eldest son, Douglas.

Deuford is survived by his remaining son, Steven and daughter-in-law, Deanne of Santa Rosa, Calif. and three grandchildren, Jared, Kara and Kyle. He is also survived by his sisters and brother, Audrice Stonecipher, Gwendola Tennyson and Dean Wilburn, all of Harrison and Imogene Payne of Yakima, Wash. and their families.

He will be dearly missed.

At his request, there will be no memorial service. Donations in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
