Delphenia Doris Luckey

July 29, 1931 - September 5, 2009

Delphenia "Doris" Luckey, was called home to be with her heavenly Father on September 5, 2009 at the age of 78. Doris will be dearly missed by her loved ones but welcomed into heaven by the love ones that preceded her death.

Doris's beloved husband and best friend for 35 years, William "Bill" Luckey, remained close to her side during the last two and half years of her life. Together, they courageously and miraculously battled her illness and were spiritually guided by their fervent Catholic faith. Doris's most significant contribution was her unselfish and sacrificing love for her family. Doris dearly loved her children, Vera Wilhelmsen and James Baum and words simply cannot express the unconditional love and closeness Vera and James had for their Mother. Doris also loved and took care of Bill's children, Pamela Barton, James Luckey and Cliff Luckey. She showed no deference towards them and considered them her own, as they too considered her "Mom".

Those of us who were blessed to know Doris knew of her tenacious zeal for life. She was very protective of her family, especially her Brother-in-law Harold Luckey, who she affectionately referred to as "Brother". She made it known to "all" that she could criticize Brother but no one else had better.

Doris always told it like it was and you always knew where you stood with her. Simply put, "What you see was what you get". All that knew her admired her loyalty, pure honesty and nurturing nature. Bill would like to express his heartfelt appreciation for the love and care provide by Dr. Crossno and the nursing staff of Vista Care hospice. Bill would like to express special recognition for Jennifer Rodi and Carol Balch, with whom Doris developed a close and enduring relationship.

We are grateful for the compassion and exemplary professionalism of the Scott & White staff in our final hours of need. Special Thanks to Vera and Dana Wilhelmsen for their love and support and to Brother for always being there to fulfill any need when asked. Thanks to Father Edwin Kagoo for his spiritual guidance love and compassion. We are sincerely grateful to Deacon Gus Cuello and Deacon Don Sims for their many prayers and continuing support. To all of our Brothers and Sisters in Christ at St. Joseph's Parish and for all of the many inspirational cards and gifts and the daily prayers that meant so much to Doris and I.

Doris was known to go to great lengths to care for her numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and other friends and family.

"She was my soul-mate and the love of my life, though her earthly journey is over, I take solace in Gods promise that we will be together eternally." I pray that God will continue to bless each of you. William "Bill" Luckey

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 until 9 P.M. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with a rosary to be recited starting at 6:30 P.M. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday September 9, 2009 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
