"It is a cruel thing to die with all men misunderstanding". Thank you for your efforts for our country, and as a member of the Gay community yourself I'm sure wherever you are at rest, you know we are still struggling against homophobia, hopefully someday we can all learn to live in harmony.

We remember your humanitarian efforts in the Congo and South America that even the British Government approved of. We recall you're stand as an Irish patriot - and your doomed attempt to stop the Easter Rebellion because you felt it was too early and doomed. No figure in modern Anglo-Irish relations was so mangled by the social hierachy of the day in such an unfair manner - they did not discuss your political views but attacked on your personal life. I am glad you finally got the monument and grave you deserved for your patriotism in your native land. It took over forty years, but it was accomplished.

Peace be with you.....You are remembered today by the Irish nation that you tried to serve and by gay men who recognize you as a kindred spirit who, like Oscar Wilde, suffered for "the love that dared not speak its name".
