OBITUARY

Frank I. Bates

Frank I. Bates, for the past five years a resident of Richfield Springs, died Thursday at noon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. E. Butler, on Chestnut Street, Oneonta, of arteriosclerosis. Mr. Bates had been a sufferer for several months, and was visiting his daughter in the hope that a change of scene, and increased medical attention might be of benefit to him, when the end came.
Deceased was born in the town of Middlefield, May 18th, 1853, the youngest of five children of Samuel Bates and Almira Rich. He was married in Westford, November 16th, 1881, to Adella Fassett, who, together with a daughter and three grandchildren,
survives him. A farmer by occupation, the major portion of his life was spent in Middlefield. In 1906 he moved to Springfield, residing there until about five years ago, when Richfield Springs became his home.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, at 2 p. m., in the Springfield Center Baptist Church, with the Rev. F. E. Arthur, pastor of the Richfield Springs Methodist church, of which Mr. Bates was a member, officiating. Interment in Springfield Center Cemetery.
