He was a retired employee with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, a native of Slaughter and a resident of Baton Rouge. James died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at St. Clare Manor. He was 82 and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, Nov. 16, was from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church on Monday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Samuel Maranto, celebrant. Interment at St. Isidore Catholic Church Cemetery in Baker. Survived by six daughters, Charla Goff Foret and husband Ralph, Karen Goff Stoy, Mary Goff Colona and husband David, Linda Goff Mire and husband David, Celeste Goff Branum, and Amy Goff Bianca and husband Mike; two sons, Thomas Keith Goff and wife Betty and Jimmie Murray Goff; 20 grandchildren, Ralph Foret Jr., Rebecca Foret Little, Matthew and LeAnna Stoy, Regina Stoy Foreman, Ashton and Brooke Stevens, Laura, Kristian and Jade Goff, Ryan and Preston Colona, Troy Mire, Courtney Mire Toledo, Drew and Hope Branum, Megan, Tony and Sammy Bianca and Dustin Goff; and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Alma Murray Goff; parents, James Preston Sr. and Mary Anita Robinson Goff; and brothers, John R., Phillip and Peter Goff. Pallbearers will be Ralph Foret Jr., Matthew Stoy, Ryan Colona, Preston Colona, Tony Bianca, Sammy Bianca, Dustin Goff and Drew Branum. Honorary pallbearers are Troy Mire and Bruce Coupel. His hobby was collecting antique cars.
