Alvin C. Berkhimer Sr., 88, Portage, died Tuesday at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
He was born in Blue Knob, son of the late Elmer and Annie (Diehl) Berkhimer. He married Delores Zybura.
Mr. Berkhimer retired as a coal miner from Beth Energy Mines.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife; children: Betty Ann, wife of Melvin Grimes, of Ashville, Alvin C. Jr., married to the former Patricia MacDonald, of Cresson, David, married to the former Carol Zamala, of Gap, Raymond, married to the former Linda Gouse, of Blue Knob and Allan of Blue Knob; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn in Michigan; and sisters: Ruth Barnes of Pleasant Gap and Delores Stombaugh in Florida.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage, and 10 to the 11 a.m. service Friday at Mount Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob, the Revs. William and Mary Hendricks officiating.
Interment at church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Mount Hope Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Roxanne; and grandson, Eric. Surivived by wife, former Dolores Zybura; and these children: Betty Ann, wife of Melvin Grimes, Ashville; Alvin C. Jr., married to former Patricia MacDonald, Cresson; David, married to former Carol Simala, Gap, Pa.; Raymond, married to former Linda Gouse, Blue Knob; and Allan, Blue Knob; also 21 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. Brother of Glenn, Michigan; Ruth Barnes, Pleasant Gap; and Delores Stombaugh, Florida.
Member of Mount Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob. A 70- year member of UMWA. Retired from BethEnergy and was an avid hunter and fishersman and loved to travel.
Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob, the Revs. William and Mary Hendricks, officiating.
