HM2 William Lyle Sperb

A NAVY COMBAT CORPSMAN, BILL WAS KILLED IN ACTION FROM HOSTILE FIRE WHILE RESCUING WOUNDED MARINES OF F CO. 2ND BN, 3RD MARINES ON CHARLIE RIDGE IN SOUTH VIETNAM.

Bill was my best friend in Vietnam. We were stationed together at Marble Mountain Air Base just south of DaNang. On the day of his death Bill was on his way to breaking the Vietnam War record for medevac rescue missions. He was on his 803rd mission.

His plan was to reach 1,000 missions and then go home to Oregon and become a doctor.

He was 20 years old.
