1979 Jul 18 - Arbutus Lake - Robert Walter Hankins was born Monday 25 Mar 1946 in Mesick to Ernest Cleveland & Marion Jane (Greene) Hankins. He was raised in Mesick, but later moved to Elk Rapids where he attended school. He then lived in Lansing where he worked at the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors. In 1968 he moved to Traverse City where he was employed at the Peninsula Roofing Company.
Robert Walter Hankins Sr died Wednesday 18 Jul 1979 at the age of 33 y 3 m 26 d at his home at Arbutus Lake after a sudden illness. Survivors included his father; his mother; 2 daughters; 7 sisters; 1 brother; and his fiance. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Robert Walter Hankins Jr 24 Aug 1969.
Funeral services were 2 pm Saturday 21 Jul 1979 at Hibbard Funeral Chapel with the Rev Wayne Squires officiating.
Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.
