James Hanney was the son of William & Hannah (Cleves)Hanney. He immigrated to Santa Clara County, California in 1863. On 1/26/1865 he married Emily Jane Cottingham in Yolo County, CA. Census records indicate that James was a farmer in Humboldt and Alameda Counties. James and Emily became the parents of 7 children.
