A memorial service for Charles Pat Downer will be held 1 p.m. Saturday Jan. 27, 2007 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 10306 Indiana Ave. in Lubbock, Texas with Pastor Chris Downer officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Texola, Oklahoma.

Pat passed away in Lubbock, Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, in the company of his children.

Pat was born April 15, 1929 in Texola, Okla. to the late Thomas Burton and Clara Rebecca (Neely) Downer. He was raised in Texola and graduated from Shamrock High School. Pat married Jean Taylor Nov. 2, 1950 in Louisiana. He served with the 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma National Guard in Korea from late 1950 through early 1952. Pat continued his education earning a BS degree from Oklahoma A&M, and later his Masters degree from University of Texas at El Paso. He began a career in education in 1961 serving as teacher, coach and administrator in Sierra Blanca, Clint, Socorro and Littlefield Independent School Districts. He retired in 1989 to Rocky, Okla. and later to San Angelo and Lubbock. He was a member of the Fabens chapter of Masonic Lodge.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife Jean; brothers Ralph Downer, Warren Downer and Jack Downer; sisters: Janet Bruce Childers, Bernyl Downer and Wanda Callian; grandson Kyle Snelson; and great grandson Travis Bullock.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Debra and husband Ed Lloyd of Lubbock, Dena Dean of San Angelo, Pat "Bo" and wife Terri Downer of Lubbock; grandchildren: James Snelson, Jason Dean, Gail Bullock, John Dean, Charles Pat "Trey" Downer III, Paige Downer and Cassie Dean; great grandchildren Charlie Bullock, Clint Braddock, Jordan Dean, Lale Dean, Mary Elizabeth Snelson and Ruby Snelson; sister-in-law: Betty Downer and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials be made to Bible Baptist Church, 525 W. Panhandle, Slaton, TX 79364, or Omega Mission Intl. 15219 Joliet Ave, Lubbock TX 79423.
