Indiana Laverty was born in Indiana, the daughter of James Laverty and Margaret (Guffey) Laverty and the twin sister of Louisiana Laverty.
Her father was born in Pennsylvania, and had lived in Kentucky and in Columbus, Ohio before travelling to Parke County, Indiana by wagon in the winter of 1817-18 and settling on a tract of 60 acres. James was one of eight children, and all of his siblings settled in the area at around the same time.
Indiana married Hiram Brockway in Parke County, Indiana on January 28, 1844. They had a least one child, Almeda, who married William H. Thompson and settled in Missouri. Hiram died in 1859.
On the 1870 US Census, Indiana was living with the apparently unrelated Dteamis* family in Watseka, Iroquois County, Illinois, probably as a boarder.
