Stephen Post is not buried at the Ancient Burying Ground. His name appears on the Founders Monument.

Stephen Post was a carpenter in Hollingbourne, England, and later was a lieutenant in a group that followed The Reverend Thomas Hooker from Kent, England to Boston, MA in 1634. The records of Newtowne (now Cambridge, CN) show "On the prime of September 1634 lots granted on the west side of the (Charles) River to Stephen Post, 12ackers." In May 1635 the Hooker Colony left Newtowne for what was to become Hartford, CN. Early Hartford Probate Court records show that Sephen Post was an "appraiser of inventory and goods in 1639. In 1641 he was elected constable of Hartford. Stephen's name is inscribed on the Hartford Founders' monument in the old burying ground as one of the founders of that city.. In 1645 Stephen made an expedition from Hartford to Saybrook. The next year, after the fort was completed, he moved his family to Saybrook. He continued his work as a carpenter, and it was there that he was appointed Lieutenant of the Fort at Saybrook.

Stephen Post married Elinor Panton ‪on 17 October‬ 1625 in Parish of Langley, Hollingbourne, Kent, England. Four of their children were born in England (John in 1626, Catherine in 1630, Thomas in 1631, and Joseph in 1633), and one in Hartford, CN (Abraham in 1640.). Stephen died 16 August 1659 in Saybrook. Following his death, his wife lived with their son Abraham in Saybrook until she died ‪on 13 November‬ 1670.
