"Mrs. Arthur DeWitt, 69, who lived west of Plainfield on Route 2, Nekoosa, died Thursday night at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. She was the mother of Oliver DeWitt, 528 Welsby Ave.
Mrs. DeWitt, the former Ethel Meddaugh, was born on May 7, 1893, in Clark County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meddaugh. The family later moved to the Plainfield area.
Her marriage to Mr. DeWitt took place on August 22, 1917, at the Plainfield Methodist Church. Mr. DeWitt died Nov. 2, 1951.
Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Amaryallis Freye, Nekoosa, Mrs. Gerald (Darlene) Klevene, Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Orris (Ila) Sparks, Bancroft, Mrs. Harold (Iva) Sauer, Arkdale, Mrs. Paul (Leila) Billman, North Freedom, Cecil DeWitt, Wisconsin Rapids, and Oliver, Stevens Point; 23 grandcildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, John Meddaugh, Bancroft, and Levi Meddaugh, Nekoosa, and a sister, Mrs.Katherine McQuire, West Hollywood, Fla. Her parents, six sisters, a brother and a grandchild preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Assembly of God Church, Plainfield, with the Rev. Irvin Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Plainfield Cemetery. The body is at the Goult-Patterson-Hardell Funeral Home at Plainfield where it may be viewed from this evening until the time of the services.
